El proyecto para la Fonda del Mercado se desarrolló con el objetivo de crear un restaurante de comida tradicional mexicana a bajo costo. La relación que existe entre el concepto del restaurante y el edificio se logra con el uso de elementos arquitectónicos que están en la memoria colectiva. Por ejemplo, tratamos de hacer una referencia formal y espacial replicando la idea de un mercado tradicional de los pueblos de México. Al mismo tiempo quisimos rescatar el uso de materiales y texturas de la región, y por eso usamos ladrillo rojo natural como recubrimiento de las fachadas. El interior tenía que transmitir recuerdos y momentos memorables sobre las fondas y puestos de comida del mercado tradicional, y el colorido tenia que prevalecer en el mobiliario y equipamiento interior.

The project for the Fonda del Mercado was developed with the goal of creating a low cost traditional Mexican restaurant. The relationship that exists between the concept of the restaurant and the building is achieved with the use of architectural elements that are in the collective memory. For example, we try to make a formal and spatial reference by replicating the idea of a traditional market for the peoples of Mexico. At the same time we wanted to rescue the use of materials and textures from the region, and that is why we used natural red brick as a covering for the facades. The interior had to convey memories and memorable moments about the “fonda” and food stalls of the traditional market, and the color had to prevail in the furniture and interior equipment.
